Appeals to the Institutional Church
Call to Pope Francis
The success of the synod is predicated on open dialogue. I am asking Pope Francis to honor the integrity of the synod by doing two things:

  • Explicitly state that clerics and religious can openly share on where they stand on ordination for women as priests without fear of punishment.

  • Hold an audience with women from around the world who are called to priesthood so he can hear for himself their experiences and take what he learns to his prayer.

Call to Ordained & Vowed Religious
There are thousands of vowed religious, bishops, priests, and deacons who privately believe in women's ordination but are remaining silent. They must come forward and speak out openly as a matter of conscience. Women's ordination to priesthood has been raised repeatedly by the laity throughout the synod process across the world. Ordained and religious must use their institutional privilege to amplify these voices in order for the bishops and synod representatives to get a better read of the Holy Spirit's movement across the Church. Statements from religious and ordained must be public as a matter of transparency, so that the magisterium and entire Body of Christ can see for themselves how the Spirit is moving.
