Mr. ManMr. Man came to Old Dog Heaven on June 6, 2023. This poor little boy was surrendered to the city after his person of 12 years passed away. He is 13, mostly deaf, significantly overweight and filled with fatty tumors. He also has some kind of issue with his liver, though at this point we do not know exactly what. He also has Cushing's disease, which has symptoms of extreme thirst, hunger, and urination. Mr. Man was a gift in that a friend just happened to be at the City shelter and noticed him. She texted me that he didn't look very good, so I headed down to find out about him.
Mr. Man came home to Old Dog Heaven with diarrhea, frequent urination, and kennel cough. While he has health issues, what stands out the most is how traumatized he is. He is filled with anxiety when he thinks I am going to leave, and when I do leave, he barks, cries and tries to tear up the house (thankfully, he doesn't do much damage as little as he is). This separation anxiety is most likely because his person died, which landed him in the stress of the shelter as an old man. We are working on getting him to feel safe and loved. Mr. Man loves TO EAT. That little booger got into my treat bag when I was out and ate the entire thing, including part of the bag. He also enjoys following me around the house, going on neighborhood walks with the big dogs, and laying down in the soft green grass at the park. He also enjoys loooong snoozes on the hardwood floor. Thankfully, Rocky and Tank welcomed Mr. Man into the pack peacefully, and all three adjusted within a matter of two days. We are one big happy family. Please pray for Mr. Man to somehow learn that he has found his fur-ever home. <3 ***
On the evening of January 15th, 2024, Mr. Man stunned us by having a severe seizure. He did not recover. We said a tearful good-bye. He died at 9:57 am on January 16th, 2024, just 7 days after his companion Tank. He leaves behind a broken heart, and the immense gratitude for having had the opportunity to share life with him, if even for a few months.
